Annalie Bell – Taylor, Full-time mom, Full-time professional, and full-time entrepreneur, spoke with Davi early one morning. After her morning workout. 7:30 AM to be exact. It’s a way of life for her. She gets up in the morning and works out for 15 to 20 minutes before she goes to work. She walks on her lunch breaks and will light moves at her desk to keep the body engaged. She teaches her children the same values. Emani, her 13-year-old daughter, shared that her mom is awesome. She’s a great provider and will be there for them through the good and the bad. “She’ll ask what’s wrong and she won’t leave until we tell her.” This busy mom shared a story when her now 15-year-old tried out for flag football. Annalie wanted to see what the girls were doing. She discussed the value of nutrition and exercise to the young girls who could not beat her around the track or drills asked to be performed by the coach. She encourages the youth to put down the game controllers and stop watching the boob tube and get moving, as she phrased it. “Your body is a temple the lord will not dwell somewhere unclean.” Annalie, Jamaican born, came to the states with her family at the age of 10. She the oldest of 5 siblings and the only girl. Annalie is very athletic. An adolescent runner she ran the 50, 100, 200 and 400 meters’ race. My favorite was the 50 meters. “I was the fastest girl in Staten Island.”

One day, Annalie went to a Zumba class and stood behind the instructor. At the end of class, students thanked her for a great class. She smiled and replied it wasn’t her class. Then she was told she needed to instruct. Annalie and a few friends went to get certified and she was the only one who completed the process. This 42-year-old Black woman is now Zumba certified and Plyo certified. Her motto, “Engage your core. Your core keeps you centered.” We discuss human nature and societies views on getting healthy. For women, a lot of the times is looking and feeling better. Annalie assists with mind shifting and helps the client see that it's their health that needs to come first. “Sexy hurts! People want to lose 100 pound in 90 day. That is not healthy. As fast as you lost it you will gain it back. You must recondition your body. It will take time.”

When asked, what encouraging word would she give aspiring instructors and fitness business owners, she answered, “You must want it.” She became interested in working out after a work injury to her back. She went to chiropractor where she received excellent rehab treatments. She expresses the importance of being taught how to recover, rebuild, and regenerate. Instead of taking medicine for aches and pains she will work out. "Just like the president of a country or a president of a business. You must look over your plan and see what works and doesn’t work. There is no one over you watching and tell you what to do. Everything is on you. What will you instruct each day? What's my overhead cost and how manage my business? How do I keep students engaged?” She shared with me the different projects she has worked on thus far. “It is so important to give back.” Annalie will fund-raise to help out those in need. Her last fundraising event was to help out a mother in Puerto Rico who was dying from a rare form of cancer and needed treatment. She reaches out to her instructors, students, and the community at large for support. Annalie knows how to rally the troops. “If it’s for a child, family, illness people will come out. People want to help people.” Annalie is working on her business concept for a sustainable business.
